Balinese Dance
Another important thing not to be neglected during a stay in the island is the Balinese dances. The Legong-Dance, The Barong-Dance, The Kecak-Dance. All are ritual and fabulating dances that you can experience in more or less professional performances almost daily. Especially in the city of culture Ubud. Even though we do not understand the background and meaning of the dances it is an experience in fascinating sound and sight.
The Legong-Dance we have experienced in three different varieties. The first time in a small restaurant, where the owners little daughter of 9 years did one of the dances. We were the only guests and were deeply impressed by her skills. Afterwards they told us that it takes one year of education to learn just this one dance. Later in our stay we saw a performance with a group of amateurs and finally an absolutely professional group, but every time just as fascination. |
